Jan's Golf Tips
1. The rule of +5 ... maximum scores on a hole is par + 5 strokes. So, max on a par 3 is 8; par 4 is 9; and par 5 is 10. If you're lagging behind and there are players waiting on you, please consider taking your max on that hole and moving on.
2. Did you know?
"These frequently misunderstood USGA rules must be followed:
1. Lost ball searches are limited to 3 minutes.
2. Mulligans (second chances to hit without counting strokes) are not allowed.
3. Playing Alone: Members must play with a partner to post scores or count rounds on play days.
4. Whiffs: Intentional attempts to hit a ball count as strokes even if a player fails to make contact."
3. * Marking ball on the green - A player may mark her ball by placing a ball marker or a small coin, such as a dime, right behind where the ball lies on the green. The key phrase here is “right behind,” as it is not recommended to place the marker anywhere else, such as in front or to the side, to designate where the ball was, even though this is legal. Marking in front of the ball may alter the green in some way and is discouraged.
